Slow-growing chicken

Our slowly growing chicken

Bjärefågel searched for a long time for an opportunity to raise a slower-growing chicken. We believe that a chicken allowed to grow a little slower – at its own pace – is well-equipped to thrive. At the turn of the year 2014/2015, we helped introduce the slow-growing Rowan Ranger chicken to Sweden.

A few years later, we took another step forward by starting to breed Ranger Gold chickens, and thereafter we have switched to Hubbard JACY87 chickens. Hubbard is slow-growing and has fine reviews regarding both animal welfare and food quality.. The chicken is also approved by European animal welfare organisations. We raise Bjäre chickens for 49–52 days.

A high rating for ANIMAL HEALTH is important

Bjärefågel works with a focus on animal welfare and responsible production. By choosing to raise a chicken that is approved by several animal welfare organisations, we ensure that our chicken is thoroughly scrutinised and meets our requirements.

We've got the FEET covered

One of the tools we use to monitor the welfare of chickens is foot scoring. For each flock, our veterinary nurses assess the chickens' feet. A score of zero is the best result, while 200 is a poor result. The foot scores for our flocks are typically zero or close to zero.
