SIGILL CLIMATE CERTIFICATION
In 2017, Bjärefågel became climate‑certified according to Svenskt Sigill’s IP Chicken & Egg standard, climate add‑on. This certification is audited annually by an accredited, independent control body. The certification requires improved animal welfare, efficient energy use, replacement of fossil energy with renewable sources, and reduced climate impact from transport and machinery within the company. All measures are reviewed yearly by independent auditors. According to the calculations underlying the certification, these requirements correspond to a reduced climate impact of approximately 20–25 percent.
Bjärefågel has worked hard for a long time on environmental and improvement work and has carried out a number of measures in the improvement work. Examples of measures that have been carried out:
• Trained drivers in fuel-efficient driving techniques.
• Feeding the chickens a fully vegetable‑based, corn‑based, GMO‑free feed.
• Ensuring that all purchased electricity comes with guarantees of origin for renewable production.
• Stables are heated using renewable resources, such as wood pellets.
The certification requires continuous new improvement measures, which are verified during the annual audit.
THE SWEDISH BIRD ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION
As a member of the trade association Stennis FBjärefågel follows industry guidelines regarding animal welfare and environmental work. The certification is under review annually by an accredited, independent inspection body. The certification also covers rules relating to Climate impact.
The certification from Svensk Fbird means among other things At Bjärefågel:
• Following Stennis Birds kqualities– and control programmes.
• Following Stennis Birds Guidelines for transport and slaughter.
Undergoing Training courses on animal health, animal welfare, and food safety.
Swedish poultry is involved in several collaborations, for example with the Veterinary Poultry Disease Research Foundation. And World Poultry Science Association.
