It started with a passion for health and a clear vision to make a real difference.
Six years later, sisters Emma and Evelina have built up Roots of Happiness. They started with a food truck and are today a restaurant concept that attracts guests in both Ängelholm and Halmstad with nutritious food, a warm atmosphere and a clear philosophy surrounding well-being.
– We don't actually come from the restaurant industry, but we dared to believe in our idea and go our own way, says Emma, one of the founders behind Roots of Happiness.
Health-building food
At Roots of Happiness, food is about more than just taste. The entire operation here is permeated by the idea that what we eat affects our body, energy, and well-being.
– Our food shouldn't just taste fantastic, it should also give the body the right nutrition and keep you feeling full for a long time. When you come to us, you should know that you're filling your body with good energy, says Emma.
The menu consists of salads and dishes created from scratch, where each ingredient is carefully selected based on content, quality, and nutritional density. Here you'll find everything from vegan options to salads with shrimp, salmon, slow-cooked beef, and of course, chicken.
Conscious choices all the way
Both Emma and Evelina are qualified nutrition advisors, something that clearly affects how they work in the kitchen and choose their suppliers.
– We scrutinise ingredients lists carefully and choose products that are as pure as possible. We want to create food that builds health and that permeates everything we do, says Emma.
For the sisters, health is not just about food, but about a greater responsibility – for people, animals and nature alike.
– Just as we want to inspire people to look after themselves and each other, it’s important to us that animals have a dignified life and that we look after nature. That’s why we choose Bjärefågel and Swedish meat.
That's why the choice fell on Bjärefågel
When Roots of Happiness chooses chicken for its salads, quality, animal welfare, and nutritional content are decisive factors.
– For us, it’s important that the chicken has been well-treated and that the raw ingredient is of high quality. It should elevate the other ingredients in the salad and contribute to the overall experience.
Working with a local player like Bjärefågel also feels especially significant.
– We are proud to be able to serve such a fine Swedish raw ingredient in our salads. It feels extra luxurious that we are almost neighbours, says Emma with a smile.
What makes guests return isn't just the food, Emma believes. The experience and the welcome are at least as important.
Our guests should feel seen and leave with a pleasant feeling after their visit. A smile is easy to send them off with and means a lot.
And as summer approaches, Emma would like to recommend a dish for those who want to cook something simple and really delicious at home.
– Make a salad wrap with large lettuce leaves, Bjäre chicken pulled chicken, avocado, cucumber, bell pepper, pickled red onion, coriander, and a homemade chilli mayonnaise. It’s fresh, simple, and incredibly tasty.
