SIGILL CLIMATE CERTIFICATION
In 2017, Bjärefågel was certified according to the Sigill standard IP Chicken & Egg, with the optional climate certificate. This certification is annually reviewed by an accredited, independent control body. The certification requires improved animal husbandry, efficient energy use, the replacement of fossil energy with renewable energy, and reduced climate impact from transportation and the use of machinery within the company. The measures are annually monitored by independent control bodies. According to calculations that form the basis of the climate certification, the requirements correspond to a reduced climate impact of approximately 20–25 percent.
Bjärefågel has worked hard for a long time on environmental and improvement work and has carried out a number of measures in the improvement work. Examples of measures that have been carried out:
- Educated drivers in fuel-efficient driving techniques.
- The chickens eat an entirely vegetable-based GMO-free feed.
- All electricity we buy has guarantees of origin for renewable production.
- The heating of stables is done with renewable raw materials, such as wood pellets.
The certification requires continuous new improvement measures, which are verified during the annual audit.
THE SWEDISH BIRD ASSOCIATION CERTIFICATION
As a member of the industry organization Svensk Fågel, Bjärefågel follows industry guidelines regarding animal welfare and environmental work. The certification is reviewed annually by an accredited, independent control body. The certification also covers regulations related to climate impact.
The certification from Svensk Fågel means, among other things, that Bjärefågel:
- Follows the Swedish Bird Quality and Control Program.
- Follows Svensk Fågel's guidelines for transportation and slaughter.
- Participates in training courses on animal health, animal welfare and food safety.
The Swedish bird species is part of several collaborations with, for example, the Foundation for Veterinary Poultry Research and the World Poultry Science Association.
