We are the brothers Ingemarsson. Two fairly common farm-grown boys that have been involved in bird breeding and managing Bj\u00e4ref\u00e5gel for over 25 years.\u00a0<\/p>

When we grew up in the 1970s on our parents’ farm outside Torekov, we raised pigs, among other things. The animals received all the additives that animals usually received at that time. The food had to be produced as efficiently as possible and no one knew about antibiotic resistance or thought about sustainability. That’s just how it was.<\/p>

“But the pig we in the family were to eat ourselves was not given any additives, because we did not want that in our own food.”<\/p><\/blockquote>

That’s why the Bj\u00e4re chickens are raised on a good vegetable corn-based feed, which for the most part is also grown in southern Sweden. There are no coccidiostats or GMOs in the feed.\u00a0This is what Per-Olof Ingemarsson says about the start of Bj\u00e4ref\u00e5gel:<\/p>

\u201cWhen I get asked if it was the chicken or egg that came first, I respond that it all started with a baby: my and my wife\u2019s first child. He was so small and beautiful, and genuine and important. When he would eventually eat real food, I didn\u2019t want to put anything in him that shouldn\u2019t be there. It got me thinking, which over time has resulted in our company Bj\u00e4ref\u00e5gel producing food that is loved by children, parents, and quality-conscious chefs throughout the country. \u201c<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>

It all started as a hobby project and in the beginning, we sold mostly to friends and acquaintances. But the rumor of our good chicken spread quickly and demand grew. We were spurred on by the interest and went to France to learn all about chicken breeding. We examined everything from hatching to feed and then decided to go home and produce Sweden\u2019s best chicken.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

To succeed with the project, we assembled a group of experts, ranging from chefs to veterinarians and people from the Allergy Association. We put our wise heads together and gave ourselves the task, to produce a chicken that was even better than the French, but without sacrificing the high standards we have in Sweden. Our focus has always been to produce a quality chicken with a focus on ethical animal husbandry and sustainability.<\/p>

We are proud to be the only chicken breeder to be allowed to label their products with Svenskt Sigill Climate Certification.\u00a0One of the major environmental issues of our time is that we must reduce emissions and use energy in a good way. This is something for which we all have a common responsibility for future generations. The climate certification means that we reduce our climate impact by 20-25 percent by, for example, using feed materials with a lower climate impact, reducing total energy use and switching to renewable energy sources and green electricity. We have also minimized the use of fossil energy and trained drivers in frugal driving.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>We are also certified by Svensk F\u00e5gel, The Swedish Bird Association. We follow their control and care programs.<\/p>

In addition, all our breeding takes place on a smaller scale on family farms, mainly on the Bj\u00e4re Peninsula and in southern Halland. Our chickens often live in converted pig houses, and the operation gives new life to the farms. That is rewarding for us.\u00a0<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

Everywhere delicious meals are cooked with our Bj\u00e4re Chicken. It is in demand by conscious consumers and at fine restaurants around the country \u2013 it is cooked in kitchens by people who love good chicken. We are extremely happy, but not very surprised, because we know that chicken with more space, has more taste!<\/p>
